When You Awake

When You Awake
When you awake, everything is in its proper place
Everything is whole
When you awake
Wet with all the afterbirth and wide-eyed
You will find it here
Let me lift your worry then,
Let me warm the grave that opened in your heart
Leave the dying to the dead
Leave the bodies on that distant shore
Hey, come step into the light
Oh, who are you to hide?
Those jaws are open wide,
You’ve finally arrived!
When you awake,
You will find there’s nothing left unsaid
You will find…
You have been a passenger
On an ancient highway paved of bones and scars
And the path has spiraled home
Past the wreckage of a world as yet unknown
Hey, come step into the light
Oh, who are you to hide?
Those jaws are open wide,
But you’ve finally arrived!
Shaken but alive!

Lighthouse

Lighthouse
There’s a red light
On the lighthouse
That the nightman can’t turn off
It just blinks out
Through the thick fog
Like some siren on the rock
Not a warning, but a welcome
That no sailor can shake off
And it scuttles every voyage
And they still can’t get enough
Let it in, just a tune in the back of your head,
“Don’t run away”
It’s sure to fade, sure to grow much softer in time
Whispering like a gun at the back of your head,
“Don’t run away”
It only wants just the narrow road to your mind
There’s a doorway
Standing open where the bloated ocean flows
It just yawns out on the shoreline
And no hand can push it closed
And it bids all men to enter
And it whispers soft and low
They would tear it from its hinges
Just to find out where it goes
Let it in, just a tune in the back of your head,
“Don’t run away”
It’s sure to fade, sure to get much softer in time
Whispering like a gun at the back of your head,
“Don’t run away”
It only wants just the narrow road to your mind
Let it in, just a wound in the back of your head,
Don’t run away
It’s sure to fade, sure to scar back over in time

Either/Or
04:25

Either Or
It either all makes sense, and I just don’t like it,
Or nothing’s true and I just don’t care
I’m inclined to ignore the signs,
Hung up like criminals in the chair
No one’s hungry all over the island
There’s nothin’ to steal, everybody’s a cop
It’s all gone quiet from New York to Brighton
And noone’s on bottom cause you can’t see the top
It either all makes sense and I just don’t sense it,
Or nothin’s wrong but I’m not quite there
I see trees made of blood and silver
Starving in the filthy air
But I’ve been inclined against my design
The censors have missed the best of my dreams
The cobwebs have cleared, and my only fear’s
That everything’s actually just as it seems
And don’t you want it,
And don’t you need it now?
Eyes fixed above you
Feet bleedin on the ground
I know you want it,
I know you need it now
You found the trigger,
Where are your fingers, now?
Yeah that’s right, you go on and crawl
On your knees through the gap in your mind
The light only burns if you give it a reason,
Look at it sideways, ask for a sign
And from now on this is love,
Intangible arms and invisible eyes,
The answer’s zero, but only for some
Surely it’s heaven, for nothing can die
And don’t you want it,
And don’t you need it now
Eyes fixed above you
Feet bleedin on the ground
I know you want it,
I know you need it now
You found the trigger,
But where are your fingers, now?

Sylvia

Sylvia
Sylvia, stir your bones
Kick your toes at how you want to vanish
Drained and down
These hateful towns
They stare you down
And call you out to fight them
But you have been hiding
Sylvia, let them know,
Find the mark for every burning arrow
Fill the stands, fate be damned,
Tear the darkness with your shaky hands and
Crawl through the ivy
The cord has been cut and all of life is shining,
Light out from light unbroken
Sylvia, steal the throne
Down below there’s only ugly kindness
Deadly bold, ageless old,
All the world will hold their breath in wait,
Until you crawl through the ivy
The cord has been cut and all of life is shining,
Light out from light unbroken
Come, crawl through the ivy
The cord has been cut and all of life is shining,
Light out from light unbroken
And from a hollow dream, you’ll vanish and awake
The fatal tremors of a dying night will fade
Into the play of colors, elegant and free,
Oh lovely!

Mary

Mary
Mary was her name, she could hear the waters whisper of her firstborn son
Waiting in the shallows like a great black swan for the day to come
With half-closed eyes, she was found by the river where their names were called
And all this time, I’ve been waiting for the curtain to fall
Mary was her name and she sank to the bottom while the band played on
Waiting in the arms of the river like a lover with the shades all drawn
The night split wide like the smile of a hunter while the wheels revolved
And all this time, I’ve been waiting for the curtain to fall
Mary was her name, she could shine like a diamond when the world was young
Weighted to the ground in her long white gown with the veil undone
Now we all join hands and we walk through the shadows by the western wall
And all this time I’ve been waiting for the curtain to fall

The Heron's Brood
06:11
|
|||
Last night anew, this haunted dream
Two beacons shine down by the sea
And something there approaches me
I woke and rose most peacefully
This swollen tomb, this empty well,
Has split apart the children’s sides
And scraped its coins across its teeth
And thrown their bones out to the tide
The heron’s brood is quiet now
Their blood drunk deep beneath the reeds
And when the moon draws back their graves
They’ll wrap their murderer in wreaths
Last night anew, this haunted dream
I woke and rose most peacefully
